RMS Titanic - Could Project Management Have Helped?

Not only was the RMS Titanic lost on its maiden voyage, it also cost the lives of over 1,500 people in a single night. Much can be learned from the history of the Titanic when we look at projects. Could Project Management have helped avoid that disaster? What could have the ship officers done to prevent such a catastrophe? This presentation will examine the various aspects of the brief and single voyage of the most luxurious ship of its time with the help of the PMBOK® Guide.

Walter is a Project Manager, PMO Consultant, and Project Management instructor with over 45 years of work experience in the U.S. and abroad. He co-authored the book “Accelerating Change with Organizational Project Management: The New Paradigm for Change”. Walter has delivered several presentations on Project Management topics to numerous PMI Chapters and other organizations in North and Central America, Asia, and Europe, as well as at the PMI North American Congresses in Houston and Anaheim. Walter was a member of the PMI team that authored the first release of the PMI OPM3 standard. He was on the Board of the PMI Houston Chapter for several years and its President in 2007. He was also on the Board of the PMI Clear Lake-Galveston Chapter for many years. From 2011 to 2014, Walter was the Region Mentor for all the PMI Chapters in PMI’s Region 6 (South Central U.S.).
